Eco-friendly and High-efficiency Preservation and Anti-mold Technology for Bamboo and Bamboo-based Panels
To address the issues of mold and decay in outdoor bamboo and bamboo-based panels, this project overcame challenges such as the material's poor permeability, the tendency for anti-mold agents to leach out, and the degradation of bonding strength and dimensional stability caused by anti-mold treatments. A series of economical, efficient, and eco-friendly protective treatment technologies were developed, achieving three major theoretical and technical innovations:
(1) The mechanisms of bamboo biodegradation were revealed; major mold and staining fungi damaging bamboo were isolated and identified, with specific strains designated as standard test organisms in the national standard GB/T 18261-2012. The patterns of mold and decay occurrence, infection pathways, and influencing factors were elucidated, laying a theoretical foundation for bamboo preservation.
(2) Novel, low-toxicity, eco-friendly, highly efficient, and stable anti-mold agents were created specifically for major bamboo-damaging fungi, increasing agent fixation rates by 80–90%. This breakthrough overcame limitations associated with existing domestic and international agents—such as narrow antimicrobial spectra, poor fixation in wood and bamboo, and suitability only for temporary protection. An "envelope treatment" technique was employed for vacuum-pressure treatment of 6-meter-long bamboo flooring planks; the process features a gradient treatment approach and low costs, resulting in products that do not delaminate or warp. With periodic maintenance, the flooring resists staining fungi during long-term outdoor use and meets international environmental and quality standards.
(3) The full-cell vacuum-pressure preservation process for bamboo was optimized, overcoming the challenge of treating long bamboo culms where nodes obstruct flow. Treatment efficiency increased 30-fold, yielding excellent results with complete penetration of 6-meter-long culms. Bamboo flooring manufactured from these preserved strips not only exceeds standard requirements for physical and mechanical properties but also extends outdoor service life by more than five times.

Bamboo Flooring Manufacturing Technology and Application
Bamboo flooring is a premium decorative material used in residences, hotels, and offices, primarily for flooring surfaces. It is manufactured from bamboo using adhesives under high temperature and pressure. Through a special, harmless treatment process that removes sugars, fats, starch, and proteins, the bamboo acquires superior resistance to insect infestation. The resulting flooring is non-toxic, durable, and stable, resisting delamination and deformation. Bamboo is an energy-efficient and eco-friendly material capable of effectively removing harmful airborne substances and improving indoor air quality. Bamboo flooring offers thermal regulation—keeping rooms warm in winter and cool in summer—and can help reduce the incidence of conditions such as rheumatism, arthritis, and heart disease, while also preventing allergic asthma and alleviating fatigue. Additionally, bamboo flooring absorbs and insulates against sound, lowering noise levels to create a quieter, more tranquil living environment. Theoretically, bamboo flooring has a lifespan of approximately 20 years. Consequently, given the severe shortage of timber, bamboo flooring—combining affordability with high quality—is poised to become a dominant force in the flooring industry.
