Advantages of Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring

1. Water-resistant and stable: Unlike natural wood, which tends to swell when it absorbs water, strand woven bamboo flooring is highly water-resistant and stable. Tests show that its thickness swelling rate after 24 hours of water absorption is only 0.5%, which is significantly better than the European standard of ≤2.0%.

2. Environmentally friendly and low formaldehyde: With a formaldehyde emission level below 0.35 mg/L, it meets the E1 standard for indoor use. This makes it a safe and clean choice for outdoor environments without causing pollution.

3. High density and durability: The density of strand woven bamboo flooring is up to 1.2 g/cm³, which is more than 1.5 times that of ordinary wood flooring (pressure-treated wood typically has a density between 0.7 and 0.9). This high density, combined with its hardness and strength, gives it superior impact toughness, making it highly resistant to wear and tear.

Disadvantages of Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring

Lower market visibility: While the relative ease of sourcing bamboo gives it a price advantage, strand woven bamboo flooring for outdoor use is not as widely available in the building materials market as traditional options like pressure-treated wood and wood-plastic composites. This is due to factors such as geographic location, climate, and a still-developing market acceptance, leading to fewer consumers choosing this material.

2. Natural color variation: The manufacturing process for strand woven bamboo flooring is very mature, so its quality is generally reliable. However, as bamboo is a natural material, slight color differences between individual pieces are inherent, similar to the characteristics of solid wood.

3. Requires regular maintenance: Despite being carbonized and kiln-dried, bamboo is a natural material that can be affected by changes in humidity. For a longer lifespan, it is recommended to perform maintenance—primarily a surface treatment with a protective finish—once a year.

4. Potential for mold growth: The carbonization and drying processes remove most of the nutrients and sugars from the bamboo to prevent mold. However, it's impossible to eliminate them completely. In high-temperature and high-humidity environments, mold can still grow, though it typically only forms on the surface due to the material's dense structure. The mold can be easily wiped away.
